It was another busy weekend for the club with 3 out of 4 teams in league action.
The Queen Bee’s took on MK at The Ridgeway and brought in Katy H to help provide some attacking threat against their strong opponents. MK took the first 2 sets but QB’s weren’t ready to give up and almost took the 3rd set, losing out 26-28. The team continue to develop having played some strong opposition in their first 2 games of the season. Katy H was voted MVP!
The second team to play were the Falcons, making their Division 1 debut, against a historically strong Watford team. Unfortunately the Falcons went down 0-3 but will be stronger for it. More details to follow…..
The third team in action were the Hornets, our development team, who travelled to King Langley to play the Chargers. With a mixture of youth and experience it was the ideal first match for the team. Tommy C was drafted in as the team had no setter available and 2 of the 3 junior players made their club debuts. The game began in near Artic conditions and KLC took and early lead in the first set with Hornets struggling to settle. Although they began to get it together, it was too late to apply any real pressure and KLC took the first set 25-13.
With Hornets making a few changes to the line up, the second set began much better but then errors began creeping in again allowing KLC to take advantage and pull away, eventually taking the set 25-11.
It was the turn of KLC to ring the changes but Hornets were playing better than the score line suggested. A run of impressive serves and all round team play put the team back in the match, taking the set 13-25.
KLC went back to their starting line up, not wanting it to go to a 5th set. The set stayed close with each team staying within 2 points and the lead changing hands several times until a run of 5 points took KLC to a 20-12 lead. This proved too much for the Hornets but again the quality of some of their play was not reflected in the final score line. Tommy was voted MVP but all the team played their part in an enjoyable match.
